Food festival returns to Abergavenny, 19 to 20 September

19 to 20 September 2026 · Abergavenny · Liberty Lux News

Abergavenny’s food weekend is back on the calendar. On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September the market town will fold halls, streets and the castle grounds into two days of producers, talks and fire cooking, with the Market Hall again at the centre of the map.

Organisers say the festival is meant to catch the turn into autumn, when rooms are still available and the late summer rush has eased on the coast. Hotels and inns around the town have already taken bookings from visitors who want Monmouthshire without the August crush.

The castle and the halls around it

More than 120 stallholders are due across the Market Hall and the satellite rooms. Cooking over fire returns in the castle grounds. Linda Vista Gardens will open as a quieter place to sit, with foraging and walking events leaving from the grass. The idea is a walkable circuit rather than a single ticketed shed.

Talks and debates are planned through both days. Organisers have kept the outdoor stages modest. Last year’s lessons were simple: a short set in the castle works, a long one does not once the temperature drops. Party in the Castle on the Saturday night is ticketed separately and tends to sell first.

A town given over to food

Traders who struggled through a cautious August see the festival as a useful bridge. Cafés near the hall say a food weekend brings a different crowd from the castle day tripper, one more likely to sit down and stay into the evening. That is the gap the high street has been trying to fill.

Schools and community groups from Monmouthshire and beyond have been offered Saturday workshop places. Under-16s go free. Residents with an NP7 postcode keep the local discount. A Sunday morning walk from the gardens up to the castle is billed as the gentlest way into the programme for visitors who want food without a full timetable.

Full listings are due on the festival boards in the coming days. Until then the message from the town is the one on the posters: come after the coast has had its rush, walk between the halls, and give Abergavenny a September weekend that is about eating as well as looking.
